The feed has a wider bandwidth than its conventional counterpart and this attractive feature is directly attributed to its dual-resonant structure. With this arrangement the radiating patch is protected from the weather and can be conformal to the skin of the platform. Additionally, there are no transmission lines feeding the EMC which is now fed at points A, B, C, or D. the diameters of the radiating and feeding patches, D r and D f, the relative permittivity of the substrates on which the two patches are realized, and the relative permittivity and height of the foam. As can be seen, the designer now has several degrees of freedom, e.g. The EMC patch antenna, shown in Figure 3.17a, consists of a radiating patch and a feeding patch separated by a layer of foam.
